With Wasp Me to the Whales, Veronika Pot has compiled a mysterious group of photographs that invoke museum display practices, conventions of natural beauty, and representations of bodies both human and non-human. Favoring analog photographic materials for their distinctive patina, Pot transforms these already enigmatic images through expressive printing, sometimes using expired papers, and through hand alterations including folding, cutting, puncturing, sewing, and embroidering. Pot’s physical deconstruction by removal, reinsertion, and repetition ruptures the continuity of these images. A coherent reading eludes the viewer. All images are silver gelatin or chromogenic prints. Kottie Gaydos
